The Cunning Fox-લુચ્ચું શિયાળ

       

"The Cunning Fox" - 

     "એક લુચ્ચા શિયાળની વાર્તા" 

    Once there lived a crow in a town. A Crow used to steal food from the houses in the town. One day, she stole a big piece of cheese from a farmer's house. With the cheese in her beak she flew out of the town.She reached a forest and sat on the branch of a tree.

એક નગરમાં એક કાગડી રહેતી હતી. તેને નગરના ઘરમાંથી ખાવાનું ચોરી કરવાની ટેવ હતી. એક દિવસ તેણે એક ખેડૂતના ઘરમાંથી એક પૂરી ચોરી. ચાંચમાં પૂરી લઈને તે નગરની બહાર ઉડી ગઈ. ઉડતા ઉડતા તે એક જંગલમાં પહોંચી અને ઝાડની એક ઊંચી ડાળ પર જઈને બેઠી. 

આ hungry fox sat under the tree. He saw the cheese and said to himself, " What a delicious piece of cheese that is! I want it for myself. But the crow will not share it with me. I will have to trick the silly crow and take it away."

તે ઝાડ નીચે એક ભૂખ્યું શિયાળ બેઠું હતું. કાગડીની ચાંચમાં પૂરી જોઈને તેના મોંમાં પાણી આવ્યું. તેણે મનમાં વિચાર્યું. "વાહ, કેટલી સ્વાદિષ્ટ પૂરી છે! મને ખાવા મળી જાય તો મજા આવી જાય. પણ, આ કાગડી તો મને તેમાંથી ભાગ આપશે નહીં. મારે આ કાગડીને છેતરીને પૂરી પડાવી લેવા માટે કોઈ યુક્તિ વિચારવી પડશે." 

The fox said to the crow, "What a beautiful bird you are! I have never such a pretty beak and such lovely wings on any other bird. And your voice! When you sing, cuckoos hang their heads in shame.

Please, please sing a song for me."

શિયાળે મીઠા અવાજે કાગડીને કહ્યું, "કાગડી બહેન, તમે કેવાં રૂપાળા છો ! મેં હજુ સુધી આટલી સુંદર ચાંચ અને રૂપાળી પાંખ બીજા કોઈ પક્ષીની જોઈ નથી. તમારા અવાજનું તો કહેવું જ શું ! વાહ, કેટલો મધુર કંઠ ! જ્યારે તમે ગાવાનું શરૂ કરો ત્યારે કોયલ પણ શરમાઈ જાય છે. મહેરબાની કરીને, મને એકાદ કોઈ ગીત સંભળાવો ને ! "

The stupid crow was flattered. Without thinking, she opened her mouth and began to sing, " Caw.... Caw..... Caw...... "

As soon as the crow opened her beak, the piece of cheese fell down.

The fox immediately grabbed it and ate it.

મૂર્ખ કાગડી પોતાના વખાણ સાંભળી ફુલાઈ ગઈ. વિચાર કર્યા વિના પોતાનો અવાજ કેટલો મધુર છે તે બતાવવા તેણે મોઢું ખોલ્યું અને કા.... કા.... કા.... . કરીને ગાવા માંડ્યું. મોઢું ખોલતા જ પૂરી નીચે પડી ગઈ. શિયાળે તરત જ તે ઉપાડી લીધી અને ખાઈ ગયું. તે ખુશ થાતું ત્યાંથી નીકળી ગયું અને કાગડી બહેન જોતાં રહી ગયા.
